Foraged Developers in the Eco Darkroom
Learn how to process analogue photographic film with homemade developers in SILT's eco darkroom. You'll gather plants and combine them with kitchen cupboard ingredients to make chemicals for developing your analogue film. You'll experience the intriguing images the eco-darkroom can create whilst learning how experiment and adapt darkroom recipes.
Immerse yourself in the eco darkroom and the intersection of lo-fi analogue technology and nature.
Plant based developers are more sustainable way to use wet photographic processes and they are also less reliable than conventional darkroom chemicals. This practice is about delighting in strange results and embracing the unusual effects. Results tend to range from almost perfect negatives to under/over developed, marked or stained negatives: We love them all!
These in person sessions take place at SILT, Unit 6 St Georges Works, Silver Street, Trowbridge, UK over 3 x Tuesday evenings in July:

Our studio is easily accessible by various transport options:
- By Train: Trowbridge Train Station is a short 10-minute walk from St George’s Works, with regular services from Bath, Bristol, and beyond.
- By Bus: Several local bus routes stop nearby on Silver Street or in the town centre, just a few minutes’ walk away.
- By Car: Parking is available at nearby public car parks, including St Stephen’s Place and Court Street.
